This course introduces promotion, advertising and e-marketing strategies and techniques used in fashion. Social media, along with traditional print and broadcast media and promotional events, provide today’s marketers with a new set of tools to use in a business’ overall integrated marketing communications strategy. While current methods used in fashion promotion are, similar to those used in past decades, social changes and technological advances have spawned the growth of exciting new practices. This course bridges traditional marketing concepts and principles with contemporary applications focusing on a social media framework. Discussion and evaluation of fashion promotions, advertising, and social media marketing will also include its social, ethical, and legal implications in the global environment.
With today’s technology we are connected 24/7 whether we like it or not. The amount of communication available each second is basically immeasurable. So what is the best way to stay on top of the most current fashion promotions and how the industry is using social media to market products and services? It’s my philosophy to embrace it! By immersing ourselves in the middle of things, students learn through action and participation. Students experience fashion promotion first-hand, through incorporating the use of smartphones, tablets, and laptops in the classroom. We apply theoretical knowledge to practical industry situations and also have weekly “Spotlights” on key social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, and more.
